FOUNDER’S MESSAGE

I didn’t take the usual path to Bay Street.

I came to it from blue-collar roots, with an entrepreneurial streak and a habit of thinking independently. That often put me at odds with my peers, and just as often let me see what they missed.

Before founding Forterra, I led the small and mid-cap strategies at a large Canadian bank. I broke away to build something independent, where I could invest on my own terms: hunting down overlooked ideas, doing the research myself, meeting management, and walking the factory floors, always with a long-term view.

Researching smaller companies is what I love. Helping clients compound their wealth over time is what gives the work meaning. Forterra is where those two things meet, and I intend to keep getting better at both.

  • Founder, Portfolio Manager

    Robert founded Forterra after leading the small and mid-cap strategies at a large Canadian bank, and brings over 20 years of investment industry experience.

    He holds a Master's in International Securities, Investments and Banking from the University of Reading, and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Windsor. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM), and is registered as a Portfolio Manager with the Ontario Securities Commission.

    Mauricio melds the dynamic world of tech with the art of value investing. His journey spans launching a SaaS startup, leading a digital asset investment partnership, and participating in Google’s LatAm expansion.

    This led to partnering with former Google colleagues and scaling a digital agency that was acquired by Publicis Groupe.

    A keen value investor, Mauricio has taken courses at the Ben Graham Centre for Value Investing at the Ivey Business School and is a CFA level 3 candidate.

    He finds inspiration in running and is a dedicated writer, sharing his insights through his blog.

    Mauricio graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Universidad de San Andres in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
